An honest comparison of Canva's video editor and Vaideo: what each one does, what it costs and when each one makes sense.

The editor's interface is in Spanish for now; this page gives each button's Spanish label.

  • ✓Narrated video from text
  • ✓AI voice in English or Spanish
  • ✓Free editor, no watermark on your footage
  • ✓No-subscription packs from €5
  • ✓No templates or mobile app

In short

If you use Canva for video and what you need is a narrated video from a topic or an article, Vaideo creates it with AI (script, English or Spanish voice, moving images and captions) and you can fine-tune it for free in Vaideo Editor, which exports MP4 up to 1080p with no watermark on your footage. You get 1 free AI video a day and one-off packs from €5 for 5 videos, or Pro at €39/month (October 2026). Canva still wins on templates, asset library, transitions, animations, the mobile app and graphic design in general; its premium assets and many of its AI features require the paid Canva Pro plan.

Why people look for a Canva alternative for video

Canva is fantastic for design, and its video editor is very handy for putting together short pieces from templates. But when you want a narrated video several minutes long for YouTube, TikTok or Reels, Canva leaves the hard work to you: writing the script, recording or generating the voice, finding images, syncing captions and placing everything on the timeline.

On top of that, many library assets (videos, photos, elements, audio) and a good share of the AI tools belong to Canva Pro. If you use a premium element without the subscription, you can't download the design clean. People who just want to publish narrated videos now and then end up paying for a subscription built for something else: graphic design.

Where Vaideo wins

The main difference is the starting point. In Vaideo you type a topic or paste an article URL, and the AI writes an original script (from an article, the same ideas without copying sentences), narrates it with an AI voice in English or Spanish, adds images from free libraries such as Unsplash and Wikimedia Commons or generated with AI, animates them with zoom and pan and burns in the captions. You pick one of 10 visual styles and 9:16 or 16:9, and within minutes you have a 2-6 minute video.

If you want to tweak it, “Open in the editor” takes it into Vaideo Editor in separate tracks: images, voice and captions. The editor is free on every plan, runs in your computer's browser and exports MP4 up to 1080p with no watermark on the footage you upload (2K and 4K with Pro). It also has “AI Voice”, with 13 free English and Spanish voices and synced captions. On price, you can pay only for the videos you need: packs of 5 videos for €5, 15 for €12 or 40 for €25, which never expire.

Where Canva still wins (and when to stick with it)

Canva is far more complete as a creative tool: thousands of video templates, a huge library of photos, stock video, music and elements, transitions, text animations, brand kits, team collaboration and a mobile app. It also covers everything else: thumbnails, presentations, posts and documents. Vaideo does none of that: no templates, music library, transitions, effects, stock video or mobile app, and the editor needs a screen at least 900 pixels wide.

If your work is mostly design, branded videos built from templates or heavily animated pieces, or you edit on your phone, Canva will give you more. If what you publish is narrated videos (explainers, lists, stories, article summaries) and you want the AI to hand them to you assembled, Vaideo is the better fit. Plenty of people use both: Canva for the thumbnail and Vaideo for the video. There's an overview of the editor at /en/cases/free-video-editor/.

When switching makes sense

Publish narrated videos without building them by hand in a template

You type the topic and Vaideo's AI creates the script, voice, images and captions. In Canva you'd have to do each part separately.

Turn one of your blog posts into a video

Paste the URL and Vaideo rewrites the ideas into its own script and uses the article's images.

Stop paying for a design subscription just to make videos

With one-off packs from €5 you pay only for the videos you make, and the editor is free.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Create a free Vaideo account

The free account gives you 1 AI video a day (up to 30 s, 720p, watermarked) and the full editor.

  2. 2

Type a topic or paste an article URL

Pick 9:16 for Shorts, TikTok and Reels or 16:9 for YouTube, one of the 10 visual styles and an English or Spanish voice.

  3. 3

Review the video the AI generates

Vaideo writes the script, narrates it and adds moving images and captions. If you like it as is, download it.

  4. 4

Open it in Vaideo Editor to fine-tune it

With “Open in the editor” you get it in separate tracks. Swap images, fix captions, add your own clips or music and adjust volume and fades.

  5. 5

    Export as MP4

Click “Export”, then “Download MP4”. Up to 1080p free; 2K and 4K with Pro. Design the thumbnail in Canva if you like.

Tips that make the difference

  • ★Use each tool for what it does best: Canva for thumbnails and graphics, Vaideo for the narrated video.
  • ★If you have a logo or a title card made in Canva, download it as a PNG and add it as an image layer in Vaideo Editor.
  • ★When you start from an article, review the script before publishing: the AI rewrites the ideas, but you know the topic better.
  • ★Since Vaideo Editor has no transitions, cut on pauses or image changes and add 0.3-0.5 s audio fades.
  • ★Get your music ready first: the editor only uses your own audio files, so pick tracks licensed for your use.

Frequently asked questions

Can Vaideo replace Canva?+

Only for one part: narrated videos. Vaideo doesn't design thumbnails, presentations or posts, and it has no templates. If what you make in Canva is voiced videos, Vaideo saves you the assembly because the AI creates the whole video from text.

Is Vaideo free like Canva?+

It has a free plan: 1 AI video a day up to 30 s, 720p and watermarked, plus the full editor, which exports 1080p with no watermark on your footage. Packs (5 videos for €5, 15 for €12, 40 for €25) never expire, and Pro costs €39/month.

Can I use my Canva designs in Vaideo?+

Yes, as files. Download your images as PNG or your videos as MP4 from Canva and import them into Vaideo Editor (up to 2 GB per file on the free account). Canva projects can't be opened directly.

Does Vaideo have templates like Canva?+

No. Instead of templates it has 10 visual styles for AI videos. The editor offers text styles and 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5 canvases, but no video templates.

Does Vaideo generate AI video clips or avatars?+

No. Vaideo uses images (from Unsplash, Wikimedia Commons or AI-generated) animated with zoom and pan, with an AI voice and captions. It doesn't create avatars or synthetic video clips, and it doesn't use stock video.

Which languages does Vaideo narrate in?+

Only English and Spanish. If you need other languages, Vaideo isn't the right tool.
