How music is mixed with your video
The music goes on its own audio track, below the video layers, and the original sound stays inside the video clip. That's why you control them separately: select the song and set its volume, or select the video and lower its sound. Volume runs from 0 to 200%, so you can also boost a voice that's too quiet. Each audio clip shows its waveform, handy for cutting right on a beat.
If you need more than one song, or music plus a separately recorded voice-over, add more tracks with the Add audio track button on the timeline. Each track has a speaker icon to mute it entirely, useful for comparing the video with and without music before you export.
Fitting the song to the video's length
The song almost never lasts as long as the video. Put the playhead where the video ends and press S to split the music, delete the extra with Delete and add a 2-3 second fade-out so it doesn't stop abruptly. If you'd rather start at the chorus, trim the beginning by dragging the audio clip's left edge.
Fade-ins and fade-outs go up to 5 seconds per clip. If the video is longer than the song, you can duplicate it with Ctrl+D and chain it, or combine two different tracks with a fade-out on the first and a fade-in on the second.
Which music you can use (and what's missing)
Vaideo Editor has no music library or sound effects: you upload your own audio file, like any other media, up to 2 GB. Use music you made, music you bought a licence for or royalty-free tracks whose terms allow your use. A commercial song can get your video muted, blocked or demonetised on YouTube, Instagram or TikTok.
If you're posting to TikTok or Reels and want a trending sound, it's often better to export without music and add it inside the app, which has its own licences. For everything else about editing, see the free video editor guide at /en/cases/free-video-editor/.
Ideas to use it
Background music under a voice
Song at 10-20% and the video's voice at 100% or more: every word is clear and the video doesn't feel empty.
Replace the video's noise with a song
Tick Mute on the video clip (wind, traffic, background noise) and keep only the music at 100%.
A photo slideshow with music
Upload your images and your song, set each photo's duration to the beat using the waveform and end with a fade.
Step by step
- 1
Import the video and the music
Open Vaideo Editor on your computer and, in Media («Medios»), click Import files to upload your video and your audio file (free account to upload).

- 4
Trim the song to the video's end
Put the playhead where the video ends, press S to split the music and delete the extra with Delete, or drag the audio clip's edge.
- 5
Export as MP4
Click Export and download the MP4 with the mixed audio. Up to 1080p free; 2K and 4K with Unlimited.
Tips that make the difference
- ★With a voice on top, keep music between 10 and 20%; with no voice, 80-100%.
- ★A 2-3 second fade-out makes any cut in the song sound intentional.
- ★Use the audio clip's waveform to cut on a beat, not in the middle of a note.
- ★Mute the music track with its speaker icon to compare the video with and without it.
- ★Only use licensed or royalty-free music: platforms detect commercial songs and may mute the video.

Frequently asked questions
Does Vaideo have free music to use?+
No. There's no music library or sound effects; you upload your own audio file. You can use your own music, licensed music or royalty-free tracks.
How do I lower the original sound without removing it?+
Select the video clip and, under Audio and fades, lower the Volume slider. To remove it completely, tick Mute or set the volume to 0.
Can I use several songs in one video?+
Yes. Place them one after another on the same track, with fades to link them, or on different tracks with Add audio track if you want them to overlap.
Can my video be blocked because of the music?+
Yes, if you use a copyrighted song without permission. YouTube, Instagram and TikTok detect commercial songs and may mute, block or demonetise the video. Vaideo doesn't check rights for you.
Which audio formats can I upload?+
The common audio files your browser can play, such as MP3, WAV or M4A, up to 2 GB per file. The final video exports as MP4 with AAC audio.
Does it work on a phone?+
No. Vaideo Editor runs in your computer's browser, on a screen at least 900 pixels wide.
